Dr. Jenny Li has participated in the litigation of large and complex commercial cases multiple times on behalf of clients in the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales. She regularly appears in federal and state courts and helps clients achieve favorable outcomes through trials or settlement negotiations.

In addition, Dr. Li provides legal advice on daily operations and transactions to clients in the fields of real estate development, construction, financial services, hotels, media, and professional services. Her clients include Australian publicly listed companies and their subsidiaries, a well-known Taiwanese beverage franchise headquarters, as well as several Chinese multinational trading companies and factories. 

Dr. Li’s expertise also extends to intellectual property law. She holds a Juris Doctor degree with a focus on intellectual property from Macquarie University Law School and assists as a mentor in teaching intellectual property law. She advises clients on intellectual property protection and transactions, trade secrets, and data protection. She has also represented clients in intellectual property disputes in the Federal Court of Australia.

Corporations Law, Bankruptcy, Insolvency and Restructure

  • Acted for a minority shareholder of a company running an internet-famous restaurant in the shareholders’ dispute, which escalated into the NSW Supreme Court Proceedings to enforce a settlement agreement. Successfully settled this matter and helped our client to obtain control of the business.
  • Acted for two Chinese investors who claimed against two local individuals for misleading and deceptive conducts which lead them to invest in a business with the intention to obtain a Business Innovation and Investment visa, and the company they invested in was later on de-registered. Successfully settled the Court Proceedings prior to the final hearing and helped clients to receive settlement sums to compensate their loss.
  • Acted for a Chinese clothing manufacturer in the process of the voluntary administration of a famous Australian clothing company, and successfully assisted the client to negotiate a favourable payment plan.
  • Defended a shareholder of a medical practice who opened a new business in the vicinity of the previous business. The other shareholder initiated a derivative application at the Supreme Court of NSW. Successfully settled this matter and the client can continue running his new business.
  • Acted for two shareholders (jointly held majority shareholdings) of a property development company with shareholders’ disputes in the Supreme Court Proceedings to force to sell development lands. Successfully settled the proceedings and helped clients to purchase the other shareholder’s shares and fully controlled the company.

Intellectual Property

  • Acted for a company in an intellectual property law dispute at the Federal Court of Australia regarding importer and distributor’s patent infringement and with a cross-claim made by the Respondent to invalidate our client’s registered patent. Successfully settled this matter with the Respondent withdrawing its cross-claim, and was restrained from importing, supplying, or otherwise disposing of the products that infringed our client’s patent.   

Professional Negligence

  • Acted for a company client who suffered from loss due to a cyber scam when sending and receiving emails from lawyers. Initiated professional negligence Proceedings and successfully settled it with settlement sum to compensate the majority of our client’s loss.   

Criminal Law

  • Acted for an offender charged under section 86 (3) of the Crimes Act 1900 and has a maximum penalty of 25 years imprisonment. Successfully establishing the offender’s relatively limited role in contrast to the co-offenders serves to reduce his culpability for the crime, and took Court to consider the other factors to reduce the sentence. The Court imposed a sentence of imprisonment consisting of a non-parole period of 1 year 4 months.
  • Acted for a defendant and obtained an acquittal for charges in relation to money laundry and fake identification.  

Other disputes

  • Act for a painting company to make adjudication applications and obtained determination to support our client receiving payment despite the Respondent alleged that the work done was incomplete and defective.
  • Act for a gyprock company to make adjudication and obtained adjudication determination to support the client receiving payment despite the Respondent alleged that no formal written contract was signed and the work was done for the homeowner, instead of the head-contractor.
  • Acted for a real estate agent company to claim commission against the mater agent and its director, and obtained a judgment for the commission to be paid by the master agent company and its director.
  • Acted for a chef to initiate Federal Circuit Court proceedings against its employee for underpayment and unpaid wages, and obtained a judgment for liquidated sum and costs orders against the employer.

  • Acted for a Chinese International Company to conduct a due diligence and compliance report for its Australian subsidiary to support its IPO and listing process.
  • Acted for an international bubble tea franchisor based in Taiwan to deal with its Australian area development schedule and franchise agreement.
  • Acted for various Chinese investors in selling and purchasing in high-end residential and commercial properties in Australia, and obtain Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) for clients.
  • Acted for local high-net-worth individuals in purchasing and selling high-end residential and commercial properties in Australia.
